I've had several aluminum trailers float and it's somewhere between inconvenient and damn un-nerving. it's usually been for something in the 28'-35' range and i've had a double axle for a 26' boat float almost to the surface after dropping the boat in.. Aluminum trailers weigh on average 10 – 15% less than steel trailers. this means that you’ll be able to haul more with an aluminum trailer versus a steel one. (your haul weight is your trailer weight minus your axle load bearing capacity.). The trailer has all stainless steel hardware as any boat trailer should have, imo. afaik my trailer does not flex but it, and probably every other trailer made, probably flexes to some extent. a better designed trailer will not noticably nor problimatically flex..
Looking at two boats very similar in size and weight. one has an aluminum trailer and one has a steel trailer under it. both are tandem axle. i uncovered the apparent fact that the aluminum trailer weights about 1000 lbs less that the steel version of the same.. Aluminum trailers vs. steel trailers when the all-aluminum horse trailer came on the market in the 1970s, pioneered by featherlite trailers, it had a huge advantage over steel as a manufacturing material.. In this episode of trailer talk dale answers a question regarding the corrosion that occurs between aluminum and steel. this type of corrosion is very common on "all aluminum" trailers..
